Gionee has again confirmed that all Gionee smartphones launched above 10K this year will support 4G LTE. 4G LTE is finally deepening its roots in India, but again it is no longer a crown jewel in spec sheet, partly because of its inclusion in low end phones and partly because of slow adoption. Getting down from the LTE high horse, what else CTRL V6L has to offer at 15? Let’s take a look.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Gionee Ctrl V6L offers an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, which is quite standard in this price range. The major challenger in this segment will be camera centric Micromax Canvas Selfie with Sony 13 MP sensors at rear and front surface. Internal storage is 8 GB and this can be further expanded by another 128 GB using MicroSD card slot. In spite of ample secondary storage options, 16 GB internal fast NAND flash memory would have been more suited to the price range.

Processor and Battery
Gionee CTRL V6L is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core processor with details unspecified (we are guessing Spreadtrum chipset) aided by 1 GB RAM. Since the device is running customized Android ROM, Amigo UI, the RAM capacity and chipset seems suitable for light to moderate usage. Battery capacity is 1980 mAh, which is again quite average. Gionee’s own Marathon M3 offers similar set of hardware, sans 4G LTE, with massive 5000 mAh battery in the same price range.
Display and Other Features
The display is 5 Inches in size with sharp 1280 x 720p HD resolution. It’s an IPS LCD (LTPS) display and thus you can expect good viewing angles. However, there is no protection layer listed on top. You can still get full HD displays for the price from phones like Wammy Titan 4, but HD shouldn’t be a deal breaker. The handset is running Android 4.4 KitKat based Amigo UI, while other features include dual SIM card slots, LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

Conclusion
Gionee CTRL V6L looks like a standard slim device with 4G LTE as its main highlight. This surely won’t suffice in this competitive Indian smartphone market, where we are spoilt for choice and used to come across jaw dropping hardware-price ration every now and then. We can expect the price to drop after initial few weeks and Gionee CTRL V6L will perhaps be a better recommendation after first few price cuts.
