At the same price point, you have OnePlus 7 which went on sale just last week. That phone also offers great performance with the Snapdragon 855 chipset along with cleaner Android experience and an AMOLED display. Let’s see how Honor 20 and OnePlus 7 fair against each other in the second most popular price segment in India, which is around Rs. 30,000.
Honor 20 Vs OnePlus 7
Design: Glass Back
Honor’s phone comes with a 3D glass back that looks premium. The curved edges and the glass panel offer a holographic depth effect. The phone comes in Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black colors and both look cool.
Up front, it has an edge-to-edge display with just a small hole for the front camera. Further, the device is compact and lightweight which makes it easy to use with one hand. OnePlus 7, on the other hand, also comes with a glass back protected with Gorilla Glass and a metal frame. It also offers a gradient pattern but it is not quite visible and at Rs. 32,999, you get only Grey color.
Up front, OnePlus 7 comes with an old waterdrop notch design just like the OnePlus 6T. OnePlus 7 is slightly bigger and heavier than Honor 20. Both of these do not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack. Winner: You can decide here.
Display: Punch Hole Vs Notch
Honor 20 sports a 6.26-inch FHD+ AllView LCD panel. The bezels are very thin and the chin is also hardly noticeable. There is a small circular cutout on the top left corner. The panel offers rich colors that look even more vibrant in Vivid mode. The brightness level is good, however, it is not that good under sunlight. OnePlus 7 has a 6.4-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display. It is also a full-screen display but it has a small dewdrop notch on the top instead of the hole. The display also comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection which is not confirmed in Honor 20. It also offers stunning colors and good brightness levels. It offers good visibility in sunlight. Winner: OnePlus 7
Camera: Quad Vs Dual
The Honor 20 gets a quad camera setup with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor. There are one 16-megapixel super wide-angle camera and two 2-megapixel sensors- one is used for depth sensing while the other for macro shots.
The primary sensor captures some good pictures with rich colors and details. The macro camera can also take some good close up shots. Low-light performance is also very impressive. The 32-megapixel selfie camera also impresses most of the times. Whereas, the OnePlus 7 sports a dual rear camera set up. It also comes with a similar 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, but it is paired only with a 5MP secondary depth sensor. The OnePlus 7 also clicks some really awesome pictures but at some points, Honor may offer better results. It sports a 16MP selfie camera that works really well. Winner: Honor 20
Performance: Kirin 980 Vs Snapdragon 855
Honor 20 is powered by Huawei’s flagship Kirin 980 SoC. The device comes with a single 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant. It also supports GPU Turbo 3.0 and all of this offers fast and smooth performance. OnePlus 7 is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 7nm processor. It comes with 6GB or 8GB RAM. It packs 128GB or 256GB storage which is a faster UFS 3.0 type storage. The device offers a killer performance. You can check out the AnTuTu scores above. Winner: OnePlus
Software: MagicUI Vs OxygenOS
Huawei’s issue with Google will effect Honor, however, it is not the worrying factor with the Honor 20 series. When it comes to Android updates, the Honor 20 will continue to support Android Pie as well as Android Q and will receive security updates as well. The OnePlus 7 also runs the latest Android 9 Pie and OnePlus uses its near stock UI OxygenOS. It is cleaner than Honor’s Magic UI. It will get two more Android updates as OnePlus is already in the list of Android Q beta program. Winner: OnePlus 7
Battery and Connectivity
The Honor 20 packs a 3,750mAh battery that comes with 22.5W fast charging support. The OnePlus 7 is also powered by a 3,700mAh battery with 20W fast charging support. This size of battery can easily take you through a full day on moderate usage. For connectivity, both the phones come with Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS (L1 + L2 Dual Band) + GLONASS, and NFC support. They don’t have a 3.5mm jack and sport a USB Type-C port. Winner: Tie
Conclusion
As you can see, in terms of performance, software, and display, OnePlus is a definitely better choice at this price point. Honor 20, on the other hand, has an impressive camera, a new punch-hole design as well as a 3D glass back. So, if you can settle with a decent performance and custom UI with less OS updates, you can consider Honor 20.
