Camera and Internal Storage

Huawei has gone the extra mile in launching the device with a good imaging unit. It gets a 13MP camera at the rear with Sony BSI sensor, F2.0 aperture, 5P non-spherical lens, LED flash and Image Signal Processor which is Huawei’s own imaging processor. Joining it is an 8MP front-facing camera with 5P non-spherical lens which supports 1080p video recording. The Ascend P7 comes pretty loaded in the imaging department. The internal storage of the Ascend P7 stands at 16GB out of which about 12.1 GB will be user accessible. You need not worry about the storage capacity as you get a microSD card slot too which will allow for expansion of memory by another 64GB.

Processor and Battery

Ticking at its heart is Huawei’s own 1.8 GHz quad-core Kirin 910T processor (based on Cortex A9 architecture) which joins hands with a Mali-450 MP4 GPU to take care of all your processing and graphic needs. It is a pretty capable performer on paper but might not match up to the performance levels of the Snapdragon 800/801/805 units. A 2,500 mAh battery is present at its heart which in our opinion is a bit small considering the fact that the device has some pretty high end specs. Huawei is promoting it as a selfie device but excessive photography might not give you a battery backup that you may desire.

Display and Features

The display unit is a 5 inch one which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels which further translates into a pixel density of 441 ppi. It gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it for protection so we don’t have any complaints in the display department. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and seeing the fact that it is new flagship, it will surely get updates in future too. Ascend P7 has 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS and NFC for connectivity so you get the complete connectivity package.

Comparison

The Huawei Ascend P7 will be going up against the current flagships from other manufacturers which include the likes of Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Xperia Z2. The Ascend P7 will provide them with a good competition but we doubt if it will come out victorious in front of any one.

Conclusion

Huawei Ascend P7 weighs merely 125 grams and is pretty thin at just 6.5mm. It has a really good imaging unit and the processor won’t disappoint you either. However, Huawei has gone slightly over the top with the pricing of the smartphone. At an expected price of around Rs 40,000, it might not make a lot of sense to the masses.
