Huawei MediPad Honor T1 Hands on Video Review

Design, Build and Display

The tablet has a large 8 inch form factor with decent display and build quality, considering the price tag. The rear has metallic build which is pleasantly surprising at this price point. Both MicroSD card slot and SIM card are housed under a flap on the right edge. A chrome lining boarders the front side and adds to its appeal. The tablet feels quite slim with body thickness of 7.9 mm. The weigh is well balanced as well.

The 8 inch display sports 1280 x 800 pixels. It’s an IPS LCD display panel with good colors and viewing angles. The sharpness is most you can ask for under 10k price range as most manufacturer are still sticking to this resolution or even lower 1024 x 600 pixels. The display isn’t exactly dazzling but won’t disappoint you either.

Processor and RAM

Huawei is using 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 quad core with Adreno 302 GPU. The humble quad core SoC is aided by 1 GB RAM for smooth multi tasking. Clearly this device is meant for basic day to day usage, enjoying multimedia content on a large display, reading activities, etc. and is capable of handling such stuff. We didn’t find any UI Lag initially, but this is subjected to change if your usage lies on the heavier side of the spectrum.

Camera and Internal Storage

With such large form factor, Photography won’t be high on most people’s priority list, but Huawei has provided with a 5 MP rear camera none the less with a VGA front camera for basic video calling. The camera performance is average. We would have preferred a single and better front camera in a tablet, but Huawei is sticking to the conventional market requirements.

Internal storage is 8 GB and you can also use 32 GB MicroSD expansion option for secondary storage. Since the tablet is still running on 4.3 Jelly Bean, you will get more freedom with the SD card without rooting.

User Interface and Battery

The Huawei Honor T1 is running on Android 4.3 jelly bean with Emotion Ui1.6 on top. On one hand its not the latest Android but on the other it is the best of Jelly bean with features like FSTRIM for better memory management and also more SD card freedom which was curtailed in Kitkat for security reasons. The interface is light and whether you like it or not will be dependent on your taste.

The battery capacity again comfortably above average at 4800 mAh for a budget Android tablet. Huawei didn’t share any usage stats with us as of now, so we will have to wait and spend some more time with it to know how long that will last. The battery is removable.

Conclusion

Huawei MediaPad Honor T1 is a good value for money 8 inch tablet which should be a good proposition for those interested in basic usage. If you are looking to read stuff, browse internet, watch videos on a larger portable display, Huawei MediaPad Honor T1 will suit your needs. Huawei has paid due attention to the looks and body design and that makes a difference.
