Infinix Zero 5 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone, and the third phone from the company to launch in India – Infinix launched the Hot 4 Pro and the Note 4 earlier this year. The Zero 5 comes with a 6-inch display, 12MP + 13MP Dual cameras, MediaTek processor coupled with 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage for the Zero 5 Pro. Here are our initial impressions of the Infinix Zero 5.
Infinix Zero 5 Specifications
Physical Overview
128GB – Rs. 19,999 (Zero 5 Pro) Starting with the build quality, the Infinix Zero 5 comes with a premium metal build. The phone is slightly thicker than 7mm and fits a big battery. On the front, there are considerable bezels on the top and bottom – Infinix has not opted for a bezel-less, 18:9 display setup for its flagship, bucking the recent trend of bezel-less phones.
The back of the phone is mostly metal and the camera is housed on the top with a black glass panel. There are two antenna lines near the top and the bottom, but they blend in well enough with the rest of the back.
The volume rockers and lock button are housed on the right edge of the phone. The left edge sports the SIM tray.
The bottom edge of the phone houses the USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm earphone jack.
Display
The Infinix Zero 5 comes with a 6-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) LTPS IPS LCD display. This display comes with 500 nits brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. During our initial testing, we found the display to be sharp and usable under direct sunlight. There is no lag or stickiness on the display either – in other words the touch latency is quite low.
Cameras
At a price of Rs. 17,999 the Infinix Zero 5 offers dual 12MP + 13MP cameras at the back. This rear camera features 2X optical zoom – in theory, this means you should be able to take crisp images even from a distance. The rear cameras also have a ‘Refocus’ function which lets you re-adjust the focus of a captured image. For the front camera, you get a 16MP single camera with selfie flash. This camera comes with a 9-level face beauty mode. The cameras seem promising as per our initial impressions, but we will test them thoroughly in the coming days for a detailed camera review.
Hardware and Software
One part where the Infinix Zero 5 lets down a little is the Hardware. The phone packs an impressive 6GB DDR4X RAM and 64GB storage (128GB storage on the Infinix Zero 5 Pro). The compromise here comes in form of the MediaTek Helio P20 processor on the phone. The company could’ve offered a Snapdragon 625 processor or a higher MediaTek variant at this price. Powered by Android 7.0 Nougat, the Infinix Zero 5 runs on the custom XOS 3 skin which brings customization and additional functionality to the phone.
Pricing and Availability
The Infinix Zero 5 will come in Sandstone Black, Champagne Gold, and Bordeaux Red colors and will be priced at Rs. 17,999. The Infinix Zero 5 Pro (128GB storage) will come at a price of Rs. 19,999 in Bronze Gold Black color.
Conclusion
At this price, Infinix is offering a good overall package with the Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro – you get dual cameras, 6GB RAM, and a big battery which is good. We will be testing the Zero 5 thoroughly over the next few days to bring you a detailed full review, but the phone manages seems to fare well enough in our initial testing.
