InFocus M350 Review, Camera, Gaming, Features, Benchmarks

InLife UI

InFocus M350 is running Android KitKat based Life UI. Let’s get this out of the way first. There is no Lollipop and chances of a future update are slim. Since Lollipop is very much available in this price range and since you will be using your phone for the next couple of years, a dated UI makes Infocus M350 lose some of its sheen.

If you are a basic user, for whom this phone is intended, you shouldn’t run into compatibility issue with Apps even in the long run and the Android version shouldn’t matter that much.

Speaking of custom Android skin on top, the UI design is simple and though it is not aesthetically beautiful design, it gets some credit for combining functional set of features without over complicating things. The default launcher with a few preset gestures, gives you option to choose app drawer or to use a single layer design and place everything on homescreen. If you don’t like default icon pack, that can be easily rectified using an icon pack or third party launcher.

Design and Display

Infocus M350 is a solidly built, though it is not a looker. There is a lot of bezel below and above the display, and this oddity is further exacerbated by the presence of software navigation keys. It is taller than most 5 Inch phones and some compact 5.5 Inch phones, for that matter.

Side edges are very slim and my fingers naturally rest on the hardware power and volume key, which give good feedback. The rear surface is curved, and that plays its part in making Infocus M350 comfortable in daytoday handling.

The IPS LCD display is a good quality IPS LCD panel. Three presets are present to toggle color temperature, but default setting works best. Warmer is too warm and colder is too cold. It has a smudge resistant coating on top, and Infocus is likely using some kind of scratch resistant coating too. Auto brightness works well and maximum brightness level is also high enough for decent outdoor visibility. The display won’t set any affordable budget standards, but it is a fine quality display nonetheless.

Performance and Heating

Performance is a strong point here. The handset employs 1.5GHz cortex A53 quad core processor coupled with Mali T760 GPU, which we found to be a better performer as compared to Snapdragon 410. Gaming was also smooth. Out of 2 GB, more than 1.3 GB RAM is available on first boot. This isn’t the best performing budget Android we phone, but performance won’t be a problem for basic and moderate users. There is no abnormal heating in the device. It runs a little warmer, under heavy load, just like any other smartphone.

Benchmark Scores

Camera and Internal Storage

The camera performance of Infocus M350 isn’t very consistent. The 8 MP rear camera and the 8 MP front camera are average performers. It looked as if, we kept missing focus while shooting from the rear camera, but at times managed to click decent shots. We don’t have much to complain about the  8 MP selfie shooter on the front side, which is an above average performer and is accompanied by an LED flash.

Internal storage is 16 GB, out of which 12 GB is available at user end. App can not be installed directly on SD card. You can move parts of apps to SD card, though not the complete thing. USB OTG is supported.

Battery and Other Features

Battery backup on Infocus M350 is good and we could comfortably make past one day mark with fairly heavy usage. We were using one SIM card and our usage included attending several phone calls, 30 to 40 minutes of YouTube videos, More than an hour of web browsing, music playback, push notifications from Gmail and twitter and ocassional light gaming. You can fully charge the battery in less than 3 hours.

Call quality is good in our area. Loudspeaker loudness is also above average. Both SIM cards support 4G LTE. Native video calling is supported, which means you can engage with cellular video calling.

Conclusion

There were things about Infocus M350 we liked, and some we did not. The handset is a solid performer and justifies its price tag of 8000 INR, but fails to evoke any passion within us because of its bland design and hit and miss rear camera. If you are looking for a durable performer with 4G LTE under 8,000 INR, this is worth considering.
