Mark Trundle, HMD Global‘s General Manager for Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia regions, confirmed this in an interview with GadgetGaul, an Australian tech channel. He said that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 smartphones would be getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update “before the end of the year“. One of the major highlights with Nokia’s comeback is its stock Android support. Now, this latest OS update comes as a welcoming news for the users who purchased any one of the devices from the first line-up of Nokia smartphones. Also, HMD has committed to timely releasing the software updates including monthly security patches fixes to its smartphones. Both the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 have been receiving monthly security patches in-line with Google Pixel smartphones, or even ahead of them. However, the cheaper Nokia 3 is late in receiving software updates, maybe because of bearing the MediaTek chip.

Furthermore, HMD Global’s flagship smartphone the Nokia 8 will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update next month. The company is already testing the update for the smartphone. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global posted a couple of images of Nokia 8 with Android 8.0 Oreo update recently.

— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) September 16, 2017 To recall, HMD Global recently launched its first flagship phone, the Nokia 8 in India for Rs. 36,999 and, the smartphone currently runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The device will be up for sale starting October 14. So, it will be good to see if HMD Global rolls out the Android 8.0 Oreo update by that time.
