DxOMark is considered as the benchmark for camera quality for smartphones, with Google Pixel leading the rank at an impressive 98 points. However, the Nokia 8 managed to score a lowly 68 points. For imaging, the phone scored 72 while Video quality could score just 62 points.
Nokia 8 DxOMark: What went wrong
While the HMD-Global led brand made an impressive comeback, the scores of the Nokia 8, the device’s score comes as a disappointment to many. The company had used Carl Zeiss Optics in the smartphone to ensure good results. Let us see where the Nokia flagship missed out in terms of the camera benchmark. Starting with the goods, the phone features a good target exposure in all conditions. White balance, Dynamic range, and subject isolation in portrait mode are also highlighted on the device. For videos, the color rendering for indoor conditions is good. Coming to the cons, the Nokia 8 is marked with low levels of detail retention. Exposure instabilities, color shading and high level of noise are also spotted in the phone’s cameras. Apart from this, the zooming capabilities of the device are also questionable. The Nokia 8 also scored poorly on the Lux 1, DxOMark’s lowest light test.
