Design and Build Quality

The Scullcandy Ink’d Wireless features the same design as its predecessor Ink’d earphones. The major change in the design is the addition of Bluetooth connectivity. It is made up of plastic and the quality looks just okay to be honest. The collar design makes it easy to use and clutter free. Obviously, the less wires it has the better it gets. You just have to put it around your neck and use the earbuds like a normal earphone. Both the ends of the collar have a thick block of plastic, out of which the right one contains the battery and the left one has volume controls, charging port and microphone. As far as design is concerned, it is lightweight, flexible, comfortable and easy to use. Although the design catches eyes which may make you feel a little odd in some cases. The Bluetooth controls include play/pause, next, previous and volume controls. It definitely eases the music listening experience for users. The flexible design makes it easy to carry; you can just fold it the way you want. Despite of an average finish, the build quality feels sturdy that gives a tough impression of the earphones.

Sound Quality and Performance

I used it with multiple phones like OnePlus 3, iPhone 6s, Redmi Note 3 and more, the performance was impressive with most of them. I am a music lover myself and have a wide taste of genres, so I tested from 80’s Rock to today’s techno and deep house tracks. All in all, I was really happy with the sound output and clarity from the earphones.

Being smaller in size, the bass level produced was not as good as what you get on over the ear headphones but still convincing. Although in some cases I felt that the Ink’d Wireless earphones are more treble friendly. The audio is crisp and loud, and works best for mis-range music.

Battery Life

Skullcandy claims a battery life of 8 hours with 75% of volume level. When I used this earphone, I could easily get 6 hours of backup on a single charge at 100% volume level. So, this is a fairly good battery life.

Microphone Quality

I used the Ink’d Wireless with my smartphone, and while listening to music, I also attended a few calls. During the call, the sound clarity was great for me to listen and for the other person as well.

The only problem I encountered was with the space between the mic and my mouth. I have a long neck and the microphone rests on the chest when you put it around your neck. It sometimes gets irritating when the other person cannot hear your voice because your voice does not reach the mic. You can either bring the mic closer to your mouth or you can just scream out loud to make yourself audible at the other end.

Conclusion

I have no major complains with these earphones, although there are some points where it can improve. There are a lot of wireless earphones available in the market but the collar design makes it more interesting. If you are planning to buy an earphone or headphone under 5K, then you should consider this only if you are not interested in the over the ear headphones.
