This new update to the Windows variant of WhatsApp allows users to set custom chat backgrounds, privacy settings that let them hide the Last Seen, Status and Profile Photo. These features were already rolled out to the Android and iOS variants of the application through updates. It appears like that some of the features will not work on Windows Phone 8.1 platform. The changelog of the latest update to the Windows variant of Whatsapp include broadcast lists, chat backgrounds, privacy settings, media auto-download settings, custom notification tones (windows Phone 8 Update 3 mandatory), multiple enhancements and bug fixes. While the Windows Phone users would already be excited with the re-entry of the WhatsApp application on the Windows Phone Store, there another interesting information as well. It is time for the Windows Phone platform to include a native file manager. It was already announced that the Windows Phone 8.1 will arrive with this long-awaited feature. So long Microsoft has included file picker and file access for the third party applications and now a first party app has arrived.
This app can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store and the description reads that the app can access files that are stored on the internal phone memory and SD card, browse, search and launch the files, share them easily, create folders for better organization and copy, move, rename and delete the files. This application appears to be faster than its alternatives and users can share files using this app to OneDrive or other cloud storage services and use Bluetooth and NFC to share them locally.
